Single Visit Crowns

As one of the leading Indianapolis practices, Keystone Dentistry continually keeps up with the latest dental innovations. Cerec® Single Visit Crowns use 3D technology to manufacture your pure ceramic crown via computer while you wait. This eliminates the need for you to wear a temporary crown, as well as the need to come back for a second appointment. Cerec® technology can even be used to create multiple inlays, onlays, or even stunning veneers, all in one day. The procedure is the same regardless of the type of restoration.
To make your porcelain crown, veneer, or inlay/onlay we must first take pictures of your teeth using a powder and a special camera attached to the Cerec® computer. The pictures are uploaded into the software and will be used for the base of what your final restoration will look like. After you are numbed, Dr. Kinney will prepare the tooth for the crown. He does this by removing any cracks, decay, or other defects that we do not want in the final result, and then he adjusts the shape of the what is left to fit underneath the crown.
Once he is done, we take more pictures of the teeth which are again sent to the Cerec® machine. After we have cleaned off the tooth of any residual powder, you are able to get up and walk around, read, grab some coffee in our reception room, or watch us finish the next phase of making your crown. For the next 20-30 minutes we will be designing and milling your crown.
The Cerec® computer uses the original picture of your tooth and the final picture to create what it thinks would be a functional restoration. A very skilled and highly-trained restorative technician will then change the initial design into something beautiful. Once Dr. Kinney checks it and gives the okay, the data is sent from the computer to an on-site milling unit. The milling unit uses large burs to cut your new tooth out of a solid block of pressed ceramic that we have color matched to your teeth.
Final adjustments are made once the product is done milling by trying it in your mouth. Once we are sure it will fit perfectly, the crown must be smoothed, shined, and prepared for delivery. After we have disinfected your tooth and placed the proper chemical bonding agents, the final creation is seated over your tooth and a high intensity blue light is used to finish curing the bond and complete the procedure. You now have a completely metal-free and attractive crown, veneer, or inlay/onlay.
