Night Guards

Does your spouse ever tell you that you grind your teeth at night? Do you wake up in the morning with a stiff, sore jaw or even a migraine? Do you have TMJ dysfunction and are still having pain but don’t want surgery? Do you have worn or chipped teeth? Do you have a history of cracking or even breaking your teeth? Don’t wait for things to get worse, seek relief with our custom-fitted night guard.

Here at Keystone Dentistry, we like to keep things simple and easy and we know the simplest, easiest, and most cost effective treatment is preventative treatment. Rather than expensive and time-consuming treatment needed to repair the damage wrought by grinding, we recommend a low-tech and tiny device that fits right over your front teeth.

Made in our office in about an hour, this device snaps in place and prevents your back teeth from clenching during your sleep, suppressing around ninety percent of your maxillofacial muscles from tensing up and becoming sore. This allows the muscles and joints to relax and heal. And, since your teeth can’t touch, they can’t grind thus considerably diminishing the amount of wear on your teeth.

This same type of clenching is considered a significant trigger for migraine headaches. Jim Boyd, the doctor who invented the device states, “This NTI device is the like dimmer switch on nerve activity at night which makes the migraines less triggerable during the day.” By reducing the ability to clench the back teeth, you also reduce the excitement of the muscles around the temples. If the temporal muscles are better able to stay relaxed, many people suffering with migraines begin to notice that they have less severe migraines and/or they become less frequent.

Regardless of the reason, if you think you may need a night guard or you have been told you need one, please contact us to receive a consultation today.
