What is Quality Dentistry?

Quality dental care goes beyond total comfort and convenience. Craftsmanship matters! You may not notice or know how to recognize quality issues in your dental work, but detailed craftsmanship means longer lasting restorations. Longer lasting restorations saves you time and money. Studies have shown it may also affect your overall health. Listed below are things to look for in quality dentistry that will make you a better dental consumer.

  • RUBBER DAM - We routinely use a sheet of latex rubber to isolate the teeth being treated from the rest of the mouth. This prevents the tooth shavings from falling into the mouth. More importantly though, it provides a moisture free environment for the placement of fillings ensuring the longest life possible for your restoration.
  • STERILIZATION - All instruments and handpieces are sterilized according to strict governmental standards to prevent disease transfer. We are fanatics about this!
  • RETRACTION OF GUMS FOR CROWN IMPRESSIONS - One of the most common dental treatments for the broken down tooth is a crown. It is made to be cemented over a tooth that has been reshaped by the dentist. The new crown must fit and seal precisely or new decay and gum disease will soon follow. The gums must be retracted (held back), or the impression used to make the crown will be inaccurate. This critical step is often neglected according to many dental lab technicians (people that make the crown). Ask us how we ensure the fit and seal of your dental work.
  • WATER LINE DECONTAMINATION - It has recently been discovered that the small hoses and tubes in the dental unit water lines may harbor bacteria and be transferred to patients. There has not been any verified case of disease transfer, but our office chemically purges dental unit waterlines to state and federal standards to assure your health and safety.
  • DISINFECTION OF TEETH PRIOR TO CEMENTING CROWNS - The crowning of a tooth is such a common dental procedure, but so sensitive to detail. When the time comes to cement the final restoration on the tooth, careful surface preparation, including disinfection and desensitizing create a bacteria free, saliva free, calm tooth. Taking this “extra” step helps ensure the cement junction of the crown is not compromised. This improves the life expectancy and decreases sensitivity of a crown or cemented restoration.
  • MATERIALS AND LAB WORK - We choose only the best ADA approved metals and materials. Our laboratory services are also carefully scrutinized to meet the highest of standards. These are the talented people responsible for manufacturing the gold and porcelain crowns actually placed into your mouth. We are pleased to have the ability to personally fabricate most crowns in the office. This allows Dr. Kinney more quality control and input into the final product placed into your mouth. This is an area where craftsmanship and extreme tolerances are required to ensure long lasting crowns and bridges.  Additionally, because the crown is made on-site, it is easy to match the shade of a crown to the surrounding natural teeth.
